16 Creatives + 16 Charities + 16 Reinterpreted Officina Chairs

2016 marks the third edition of Cult's Charity Project with , the esteemed charity event that invites leading Australian creatives to reinvent an iconic chair design. Each creative is given complete freedom to reinvent the chair, which is exhibited and auctioned off to a charity of the creative's own choice.

In previous years, Cult has invited creatives to bravely reinterpret an iconic design. This year, to shake things up, Cult invites creatives to reinterpret a ‘future classic'; the Officina chair which was designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Magis just two years ago.

The Officina collection explores the possibility of establishing a new creative language while working with an ancient fabrication process such as iron forging. Forging, the process used to shape iron, pressing it between the hammer and anvil, has a history that stretches back over millennia. Throughout the ages, this technique has been used to create an in nite number of everyday objects and decorative artefacts
Once again, absolute simplicity combines with the allure of a raw material handed down through the centuries, alive, with those slight imperfections that make each piece in this collection unique, with an unmistakably industrial feel, but combined with a profoundly re ned and elegant spirit.

For Cult's Charity Project with Magis, they invites 16 creatives from all disciplines – from and photography, to graphic design and jewellery – to take on the unique challenge of reinterpreting the Officina chair. Cult is happy to welcome back 10 creatives who have participated in previous years such as bassike and Fiona Lynch, along with six new contributors. The diversity of creatives taking part in the project results in a wide range of chair reinventions and a captivating exhibition and auction, which will take place 17-27 November. Stay tuned for more details. Creatives include (in alphabetical order): Adam Cornish, Adam Goodrum, Arent+Pyke, Bassike, Christopher Boots, Design by TOKO, Fiona Lynch Office, Henry Wilson, Marsha Golemac + Dan Hocking, Mim Design, Mika Utzon-Popov, Olsen Ormandy for Dinosaur Designs, Studio Elke, Studio Twocan, Tracey Deep and We Are Triibe.
