Stockholm Design Week 2019 is the world's leading event for Scandinavian design. Every year more than 700 companies present their latest news and more than 200 high profile design events take place at various venues around the city. In fact, the same week as the Stockholm Design Week 2019 (4-10 February 2019) take place also the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair. Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2019 is officially opening next week (5-9 February 2019).
This year's Guest of Honour is the award-winning design and architecture office Neri&Hu. Neri&Hu is creating an installation at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2019 that highlights social issues unique to China. The traditional Chinese village, which is disappearing at an alarming rate, is depicted in the installation. Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu will hold their talk with the moderation of Marcus Fairs, Dezeen founder, on 6 February 13:00 – 14:30.
During the Stockholm Design Week 2019 there will be five days featuring influential speakers, passionate panel discussions and some great inspiration – all combining to create an all-encompassing experience within design and architecture. Some of the speakers are Alice Rawsthorn, David Thulstrup, Sabine Marcelis, Gert Wingårdh, Matali Crasset, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance and Tom Dixon.
The program will be held on stage next to the Design Bar in Victoria Hall and includes almost 100 speakers and around 40 program points.

The Future of the Suburb on with Helena Bjarnegård – National Architect of Sweden, Lasse Åberg – Journalist, Liza Fior – architect, MUF Architecture/art & Gert Wingårdh – Architect ASR/MSA at Wingårdhs. They will talk about what can architects and town planners do to stimulate neglected areas.
The Future of the City Centre on he Design Bar / Victoria Hall with Claes Britton – journalist, Johanna Jarmeus – architect at Nyréns, Mat Cash – Group Leader Heatherwick Studio and Karolina Keyzer – architect at OKK+. Taking Stockholm and London as their points of reference they will discuss the impact and influence of architecture on the attractiveness of city centres.
The Future of Infrastructure on . Alexander Ståhle – Urban Planner at Spacescape, Helle Juul – Architect at Juul Frost, Julien De Smedt – Architect at JDS Architects and Stina Nilimaa Wickström – Vice President Product Design at Volvo Group will be discussing how new forms of transport will affect our city centres, why traffic planners seldom speak of the importance of beauty, and what we can learn from the 700-year old Ponte Vecchio in Florence, Italy.
The Future of Public Space on
Design and pragmatism on 6 16:00 – 16:50 with Matali Crasset. Pragmatism is a philosophy that stresses experience and action, but also invention and creativity.
Challenges and Opportunities in the Design World of Tomorrow on 7 12:00 – 12:50 with Tom Dixon.
Designing the Inclusive Museum on 7 16:00 – 16:50. Joel Sanders – architect and Helena Kåberg, Senior Curator & Project Leader Nationalmuseum will focus on the design of the Stockholm Nationalmuseum, for which JSA recently designed a family of display components for the permanent collection and than they will speak more broadly about the museum by introducing a recent project: The Inclusive Museum.
Design as an Attitude on 8 14:00 – 15:00 with Alice Rawsthorne. Unmissable appointment with the Award-winning design critic. She will discuss the future of design, and the challenges and opportunities explored in her new book, Design as an Attitude.
