What is elementary is never obvious. Searching for elementary things means being able to go deep, eliminate superfluous, disassemble superstructures to get to the core of the matter.
What is elementary is direct and concise. Elementary matter returns its wonder, because when you assimilate and know it you can reinterpret it to play it with everything else.
This is the Elementary manifesto and it is true for any kind of matter: form concrete to steel…from wheat to herbs.
In the core of the leather district of Arzignano, not so far from Vicenza and the caves of Vicenza stone, Elementary is part of Olivieri 1882, a large restored industrial space that houses Olivieri Café, an historic pastry shop and ice cream parlor, Bianco Olivieri, a real bakery where you can buy bread and some gourmet products and Elementary pizzeria bistros and wine bar.
Elementary
Olivieri 1882 is a project designed to contain the evolution of work patterns that have characterized family's activity during generations and it is located inside the refurbishment of the former Pelizzari's pumps factory. The building was still as it was during the production, before it was left abandoned. The site showed the ravages of time and the sequence of layers that have been added time after time. The project, then, comes from the industrial nature and the peculiar materials of the site – concrete and steel – and aims to preserve all the distinctive features of the building.
One more layer only has been added: the exterior platform in black concrete. On the inside, an open and neutral space is divided through the archetypical steel frames of the greenhouses that host the ‘production' and the new ‘product'.
Elementary
Each area is then personalized with the selected and designed furniture. The objects and the materials create an intriguing contrast between the classy atmosphere and the rough industrial case (the existing building). The project dialogues with the natural light through a completely custom made approach.
