The winners of the International Design Awards 2017 (IDA) were announced for the 10th edition of the prize in architectural, interior, fashion, product and graphic design categories.
The International Design Awards (IDA) exists to recognize, celebrate and promote legendary design visionaries and to uncover emerging talent in architecture, interior, product, graphic,
and fashion design. IDA draws attention to the iconoclasm of design worldwide: conceptualizing and producing great work.
The newest winners of the International Design Awards (IDA) were announced for the 10th edition of the prize. The IDA Jury reviewed thousands of inspiring entries from over 60 countries, bringing the most innovative design and outstanding performance to the spotlight.
Congratulations to the Top 5 Designers of the 10th Edition of International Design Awards, each of whom will receive the IDA Trophy at the bi-annual Winners Cocktail Event on June 10, 2017, at A+D Architecture and Design Museum, Los Angeles:
Architectural Design of The Year – Stinessen Arkitektur – Manshausen Island Resort
Manshausen Island is situated in the Steigen Archipelago off the coast of Northern Norway. The resort was planned and laid out in consideraton of the Island´s topography and the main existing structure – the old stone quays. The cabins are all but one placed on the stonequays, partially cantilivered above the sea, one placed on a natural shelf on the rocky formations above . The positioning and orientation of all the cabins is based on the consideration of their individual panoramic views and privacy for the guests. The cabins are designed to offer their guests shelter and comfort while at the same time underlining the dramatic experience of the elements outside; the sea, landscape, changing lights, weather and different seasons. Above all the cabins endeavour to fulfill the functional requirements of the guests, with with ample space for luggage and clothing/equipment, a comfortable bathroom and a kitchen/dining area.
Fashion Design of the Year – Alisa Sibgatova, Witch Craft – New Classics
This collection is the set of unusual handweaved material which is made only in Russian factories. All the fabrics are natural such as wool or silk. Structured and sharp look of jackets can bring you new ideas for your wardrobe. Be theatrical, play with your wardrobe, act like you are on the scene!
Graphic Design of the Year – Phoenix The Creative Studio – Cannes Lions Survival Kit
Cannes Lions has always been a popular event, but in recent years it’s been more popular than ever. This means that it’s difficult to stand out there. There’s a lot of noise and options for attendees to choose from, and we wanted cut through the clutter and reach decision makers at brands and agencies. 1,000 kits were delivered to senior marketers at brands, agencies, and publishers. GumGum was able to achieve 150 meetings on their boat who were drawn there by the kits. We expanded GumGum’s brand awareness to a number of executives who previously hadn’t heard of the company.
Interior Design of The Year – Panorama International Ltd. – Wateryard House
This is a showhouse of a new property development in Shenzhen China. With 1500 s.q.m. in size occupying 5 storey, its spatial planning gave reference to traditional Chinese Courtyard House with a new interpretation. Different functional zones in each floor stacked up to surround the central “Courtyard” of skywell and indoor swimming pool.
Product Design of the Year – Elica S.p.A. – Nikola Tesla
NikolaTesla is Elica‘s first aspirating induction hob equipped with the most advanced technologies with distinctive design, characterized by strong lines and high quality material, combining the functions of two appliances into one single product. Elica added specific technologies, like the double bridge function that allows for two adjacent cooking zones to combine, so that large sized pots can be used
The 5 disciplines honored in the International Design Awards (architectural, interior, fashion, graphic, and product design) are further divided into 300 categories that span the whole world of design. Whether it be emerging talent or trusted names that set industry standard, IDA recognizes the people behind cutting-edge design from all over the world.
Design seamlessly integrates itself into everyday life making work and play more simple. IDA seeks to recognize and celebrate achievements in design, with expanded categories including specializations ranging from Self Learning Devices to Design for Social Impact. In addition to the five main design discipline winners, IDA recognizes the superb talent of entrants to IDA with gold, silver, bronze and honorable mention certificates.
A selection of Italian winners of different categories for the 10th Edition include:
Gold medal for Alitalia Uniform by Ettore Bilotta. The collection has been designed and tailor-made by a team of nearly 500 people in Italy, with fabrics made in Tuscany, silk in Como, men’s uniforms tailored in Puglia, and leather accessories such as gloves in Naples, and shoes in the Marche region. Created by Italian haute couturier Ettore Bilotta at his atelier in Milan, the new ‘Alitalia Collection’ takes inspiration from the glamorous golden days of Italian fashion in the 1950s and 1960s and Italy’s rich heritage, culture and national identity. It also celebrates the people of Alitalia, their professionalism, style and passion for the airline.
Silver medal for 784 armchair by Carlo Colombo. This is not an armchair, or at least what appears as an armchair. There is, between an object and its aesthetic dimension, an aspect that stimulates our gaze or leads it elsewhere, almost to a condition of transcending the perceptible realm to which both the object and the word naming it belong
Silver medal for “Colli Ripani wine collection” by Andrea Castelletti, Camilla Gatti, Camilla Boselli. Every wine is a story of the land it comes from, worthy of being told: the 10 wines in the line play witness to an original short story that tells of the Colli Ripani in 10 chapters. Each bottle is a piece of a puzzle, that when put together gives a complete picture of the Ripatransone territory. An idea that is given life in both the graphics and content of each label: a journey from one wine to another in 10 stages, that tell a unique story together.
Silver medal for “I-MESH Lightweight Diffuser Ceilings ” by MIGLIORE+SERVETTO Architects. Mondadori Megastore in Milan has been conceived by architects MIGLIORE+SERVETTO as a place with strong identity roots given by a specific combination study of different materials and colors where I-MESH has been purposely designed to be a lightweight diffuser ceiling thanks to the technical features of the metric construction of the texture where it has been weaved the Brand “Arnoldo Mondadori”. The lightweight transparency of I-MESH helps the visitors to travel through the different thematic areas where the light runs across the technical yarns of I-MESH separating yet creating continuity on a total surface of 750 sqm. I-MESH is very light, flexible and easily packed. Large areas of material are installed without the need of any special mechanical equipment. The components that make up for I-MESH are two: resin and yarn (Carbon, Basalt, Fiberglass, Technora and Zylon). Its recyclability is obtained through the re-melting of the matter.
Bronze Medal to Hotel Tofana in S. Cassiano in Badia Valley (IT). A aesthetically pleasing silhouette with its unique scenic entourage reflecting the shape of a tree-lined mountain peak.
Bronze medal for “RIVAMARE” by Officina Italiana Design. The Rivamare is an 11.88-metres (39 ft) motorboat with a maximum beam of 3.5 metres (11.6 ft). Thanks to seductively sporty new lines clothed in a sleek London Grey livery, it instantly steals the show with its meticulously clean, sinuous good looks. In fact, this is a yacht destined to make a major impact on the luxury nautical sector.
